Anthropologie Plates

During my stay in AZ I was excited to hear of a new Anthropologie in the East Valley.  Sure we have one here in Austin, but do I really have to explain myself with being excited about this?  I mean, it’s ANTHROPOLOGIE.  I actually made two trips in one week.  (okay, that part’s k/o sad.)

Here I am staking my ground, ready to elbow any bimbo that comes my way toward the rack I’m going thru.  Sure, there was obviously hardly anyone there — but one can never be too ready.

Anyway, I found these plates that were $2.00 each and loved them, loved the color, loved that they were perfect for my kitchen and loved the fact that I could actually afford something from ANTHROPOLOGIE.  (sorry, I got overly excited again.)

EAT

First I wanted to create the word “HOME”, then “PARIS”, then “FOOD”, then thought I’d consider “MEAT” in homage to dt.  Then decided on “EAT”.  (Can you tell why they were $2.00?)  We carefully drove them back to TX and… I don’t know… EAT just sounds so damanding.  You don’t really want to see commands in the kitchen.  Right when you walk into my house you see “EAT”!  Maybe it would make more sense if it was “EAT DAMN IT”.  Then I could at least laugh about it and it would be worth getting strange looks.

We then considered the past tense “ATE”.  But, I mean, that’s just weird, isn’t it?

ATE

Finally, out of the blue we realized we could create “TEA” which makes much more sense and is even cute and somewhat proper sounding and not demanding or weird at all.

TEA

So “TEA” it is!  Thank goodness for Wordtwist! ;)

There is nothing quite like a fall day…

After only experiencing Arizona’s 3 seasons (warm, baking, 1 month cold front), we’re loving our first real fall!  We walked to the library today and Jr found a lot of awesome leaves on the way.

Leafy Treasure

We had so much fun trying to gather as many colors as we could find.  Here are some of our beauties.

Leaf Hunting

Also, if you think of it, say a little prayer for me ’cause I’m fighting a little cold. I’ve been excited to prepare my first ENTIRE Thanksgiving dinner for my little family here, but it won’t be quite as fun if I’m coughing and sneezing into their food. ;)

We wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!

1 Corinthians 1:3-5 (The Message)

3May all the gifts and benefits that come from God our Father, and the Master, Jesus Christ, be yours.

4-6Every time I think of you—and I think of you often!—I thank God for your lives of free and open access to God, given by Jesus.

The Heart of the Home

Isn’t the kitchen known as the heart of the home? Where everyone gathers together. Where the activity of the house can be measured by the comings and goings of little feet or the volume of intersecting conversations. Where late night conversations begin over a glass of wine in the stillness of a quiet house. Maybe I’m just imagining that’s a well-known saying, but it seems to be true in our home.

Jo has been trying to get our home more organized after being here for just over two months now. And understandably, much of that effort has been focused on our kitchen. Well after much work and organizing (code for lots of work), our kitchen has finally come together as that cohesive hub of activity it was meant to be. Here are some pics of what it looks like now:

Organized with evidence of our handiwork still on the counter.

Setting up some relaxing ambiance behind the sink.

Our nook makes me think of a quiet little bistro. It’s the small table and the well placed pictures on the wall. (Good thinking Jo!)  :-P

If you’re gonna organize, might as well go all the way!

Seriously, all the way!

And of course, mission complete. A cause for celebration, a mango kicker!

I don’t know if this is already a cocktail somewhere but we sort of made it up on the fly. Here’s the recipe. Give it a try!

The Mango Kicker

  • 1 shot (1 oz-ish…) good rum
  • 2 oz mango juice
  • splash of pomegranate juice
  • mix all three in a short glass filled 2/3 with crushed ice, enjoy!

Thanks lovey!
